why fisherman?

In the early 20th century, along the coasts of Europe, fisherman sandals were born out of necessity. Worn by fishermen in Ireland, Italy, and across the Mediterranean, they were designed to protect the feet on wet decks and rocky shores while allowing water to pass through and dry quickly.

Thick leather, closed toes, secure straps every element had a purpose; nothing was decorative.

Later, the same design moved from work into everyday life. In the 1950s and 60s, fisherman sandals became common footwear for children and students. Chosen by parents for their durability and comfort, they were built to withstand long, active days.

Today, the world looks different, but the way we live is still demanding. The modern woman is constantly in motion.

Days are long and layered. We move constantly between places, roles, climates and expectations. That is why the fisherman sandal makes sense again: not as nostalgia, but as intelligence rediscovered. Its original strengths, protection, breathability, stability, respond perfectly to contemporary life, where comfort is essential, where versatility replaces occasion, and where beauty is expected to work.maria carlota brings this functional heritage into the present, respecting the original logicwhile refining proportions and lightening the structure. Removing what no longer serveskeeping what matters. From working shores to modern cities - from necessity to intention.

A design born from real life reimagined for the way we live today.
